Puppy Scholar Program
Here at CCnC Retrievers we offer a puppy scholar program on a limited basis on select litters and puppies.
Availability is VERY limited so joining the waiting list as soon as possible is highly recommended.
Puppies chosen to be in our scholar program have been specifically chosen strictly for their attributes, personality, and testing scores, not based on breed, gender, or color.
Families wishing to buy puppies out of our scholar program will not be able to select breed, gender, or color personally from a litter. Puppy scholars are chosen by the breeder due to their attributes, personality, and testing scores strictly due to them being a great candidate to join the scholar program, but families may join the waiting list and wait until a scholar becomes available they're interested in.
Our scholar program will operate just as any other waiting list in numerical order from the time you've joined.

πWhat is the puppy scholar program?
The puppy scholar program is a 8 to 12 week basic training and socialization program offered for select puppies based off a puppy's attributes, personality, and testing scores that have been chosen by the breeder as an excellent candidate for additional training prior to being placed with their families. Below you can find what basic training puppies will receive in our scholar program.
Scholar Program Training:
- Clicker AND marker word training
- Crate training
- Potty training
- Learning to settle
- Basic house manners
- Public socialization
- No jumping
- Lead training
- Break command
- Sit command
- Stay command
- Place command
- Wait command
- Outside command
- Inside command
- Going to their crate on command
Please keep in mind these are puppies! The first week may be an adjustment period for some puppies with all training. It is important new families are following through with the guidance they've been given by us to maintain their puppy's training and making sure not to commit any puppy parent errors such as not sticking to a consistent schedule and routine, or taking your puppy out in sufficient amount of time for potty breaks. Proper canine training is a team effort and often times relapse training is due to human error,

πAt what age do puppy scholars come home?
Our puppy scholars come home between 16 to 20 weeks old depending on the scholars progress. We want all of our scholars to have a great training foundation under their belts before going home with their families! Just as human, some puppies learn faster than others for this reason we give them a four week buffer time frame for those that may need a little more work on training before graduating the program.
πHow does the puppy scholar waiting list work?
The puppy scholar waiting list works similar to our regular puppy waiting list process with a few differences. A puppy application will need to be submitted for approval first, the application for a scholar puppy is the same application as our regular puppies. However, please be sure to check the box under the waiting list question on that application that says "applying for a scholar puppy".
As mentioned prior scholar puppies breed, gender, and color are not specifically chosen by families. A family will be offered the available scholar puppy/ puppies when they are entered into the program at 6 weeks old, it is at that time those on the waiting list for scholar puppies will choose to reserve the current scholar puppy available or wait for the next scholar puppy.
Keep in mind our scholar candidate availability is limited and the wait time for scholar puppies may be lengthy depending on availability and our scholar waiting list.
If you are not wanting to wait for a scholar puppy or you want to choose your own puppy but still would like some basic training done with your puppy in advance you may be able to choose to add our "Entry to Basic Training Package" to your puppies regular fee instead. Please see that information on our "Puppy Prices" tab. Please keep in mind we offer only one to two spots per litter and that's only if we have the availability for additional puppy training and breeder resources at that time.
Our puppy scholar waiting list is operated in numerical order. Families will move up the waiting list as other families get their puppies.
At 6 weeks old after our temperament testing and the Volhard's Puppy Aptitude Test (PAT) has been done on puppies we will either choose to keep back exceptional candidates for our puppy scholar program or not. If a puppy or two is selected those on the waiting list for a puppy/puppies will be contacted at that time to select their puppy or pass until the next candidates become available again.
There is a $350 non-refundable scholar waiting list deposit to join the scholar puppy waiting list and an additional $500 non-refundable reservation fee when you select your scholar puppy. We do allow families on the waiting list to meet their potential scholar puppy prior to reserving them, to schedule an appointment to meet your scholar puppy please request to do so and schedule a meet and greet with them withing 72 hours of your given offer. Your decision to wait and stay on the waiting list or your reservation deposit will be due on the day of your meet and greet depending on what you decide.
The remainder of your scholar puppy's fee will be due upon pick up between 16 and 20 weeks of age.
We do allow families to schedule meet and greets with their puppy's during their time here with us training. We encourage that bonding time with your puppy! If that's something within your means we highly recommend visiting your puppy to start growing your bond. Simply reach our to us to schedule a meet and greet time with your scholar puppy!
πHow much does scholar puppy training cost?
We know board and train, even for the basics, can cost thousands and often times is out of the average family's budget. Some families may also not know how to train their puppy or would prefer not to go through the start of puppy training, but do want a new puppy directly from the breeder that's older and won't have an unknow history and background from unknown previous families.
What ever your reasons or preferences may be, it is why we decided to developed our scholar puppy program for a select few puppies, offering our training skills and knowledge.
Please note we are not professional dog trainers, we are breeders who have years of experience in training our own dogs. We are not experts in advanced dog training or professional canine behavioralists. It is for this reason we offer the same great benefits of basic training but at a reasonable price!
All of our scholar puppies fees are the same whether they're a Labrador Retriever or Golden Retriever. These puppies have been carefully selected for their intelligence, temperament, and training abilities.
Our scholar puppies are $1,850 total. All puppy deposits made are deducted from your puppy's total fee. After deposits are made the remainder balance of $1,000 will be due upon pick up of your scholar puppy. Your puppy will go home between 16 to 20 weeks of age, most with the goal of going home between 16 and 18 weeks old.
*Fees are subjected to change in the future as resources and medical service prices change. However, prices will NEVER go up to those individuals already on the waiting list for a scholar puppy prior to any pricing increases. Once a buyer has made a deposit and is added to the waiting list their quoted price is locked in and will not go up!
