The first step to acquiring a Carolina's Cute n Cuddly Retriever pup is to fill out an application. It is located on our website at www.ccnc-retrievers.com/puppy-application and we will work on adding it to our Facebook Page if possible. You must fill out the application in its entirety to be considered as a future home for one of our beloved puppies. Filling out an application 𝐃𝐎𝐄𝐒 𝐍𝐎𝐓 automatically make you eligible for one of our puppies.
If you are approved, either my partner or I will reach out to you to let you know. We do like to have at least one phone conversation with families, but it's not mandatory. We take in consideration that most individuals' preferred method of communication is text message.
Puppy availability will depend on the litter size, how many of each gender there are, and where you are on the waiting list; so the sooner you get on our waiting list the better. Being on the waiting list 𝐃𝐎𝐄𝐒 𝐍𝐎𝐓 reserve a specific litter or puppy; it simply means you have been approved as a future home and will be notified according to where you fall on the list when we have puppies coming and again when we have puppies on the ground.
We accept a non-refundable deposit prior to getting on the waiting list, litter, or for a puppy if listed “available”. Reservations are first come first serve as to how and when deposits are received. We 𝐂𝐀𝐍 𝐍𝐎𝐓 hold any puppies without a deposit out of fairness to our other families.
All of our breeding dogs have been genetically tested and are healthy. Those documents can be found on our website under our dams & sires page www.ccnc-retrievers.com/ccnc-dams-sires Our dogs are tested through the leading DNA testing company, Embark vet. As of 2024/2025 Embark vet tests for over 270 different genetic conditions both breed related and additional. Full reports on our dogs are done and displayed for all of those interested on our website.
You can find litter announcements, pictures and videos of the parents and the babies on the Carolina's Cute n Cuddly Retrievers Facebook page. We will post when our females are bred, when they are due, and what puppies we have on there, so please follow us regularly to stay informed. We update frequently. We want all of our families to watch our babies as they grow, so we will post video and picture updates often. We will also include an album dedicated to each litter so families can go back and save all of the photos of their little pup-a-bean they want after selecting individual babies at 6 weeks.
Once we know who is getting puppies off of our waiting list or has joined a litter that may have had space, we will send out a link to our website that lists all of the things families will need to get for their new puppy. We strongly recommend purchasing all of your puppies' necessities before they come home so you can focus on helping them properly adjust to their new surroundings and the big changes.
Our puppies are all assigned a colored ribbon at birth. We will list which color ribbon is which gender. Every litter is assigned a litter theme which will be revealed in the coming days after puppies are born. Between 5-7 days puppies will each be assigned litter themed names, these will be their names for the next 7 weeks they're here with us.
When the puppies turn six weeks old I begin to evaluate them and perform individual temperament testing. Each puppy is temperament tested using the Volhard Puppy Aptitude Test (PAT) and our own temperament testing, as well as taking in consideration each puppy's temperament and behavior up to that point. It's something we say a lot, but temperament is so extremely important to us. We take the temperament of puppies in consideration for their placements above coloring.
We have the first pick of any puppies in a litter that'll be staying with us, and then we decide which puppy best fits with each family based on the “puppy temperament form” submitted by each family when they join a specific litter on the ground and puppies temperament information. This form combined with our “puppy report” we do, helps us guide families to selecting the right puppy for their home. This is based on the personality of the puppy, what our families are looking for in their new companion, their lifestyle, and activity level. As a responsible breeder it is extremely important that we match the right puppy with the right family as my goal is to put our babies in forever homes. Our families do not know the puppies like we do, which is why we do all of this work to help families select the right puppy for them. We want all of our puppies to find forever families and keep them from being surrendered or rehomed.
Puppies will be given multiple parasite preventative medications, multiple times to ensure they're parasite free, will have two NeoPar vaccinations to protect them to the best of our ability from the deadly parvovirus, their first dhpp puppy vaccination in the series done by our vet, will be microchipped, and litter box trained when they leave.
All puppies' health information and documentation will be in their puppy folders along with a ton of other information. It's extremely important to keep track of this information to present it to your vet when you have their health exam done within three business days after going home.
Each puppy is microchipped at 8 weeks old shortly before leaving us. Every puppy's microchip is registered to us. Families are given microchip information to register their puppy's microchip in their name. However, we do ask our phone number to be listed as a secondary contact number.
AKC registration applications are sent home with each puppy in their puppy folder. All puppy AKC registrations are limited, no breeding rights come with our puppies at this time.
A 2 year life threatening genetic health guarantee comes with each pup-a-bean. A health examination done by your veterinarian will need to be done within 3 business days from the time of pick up to be valid.
Upon pick up of each puppy our “puppy contract and 2 year genetic health guarantee” will need to be signed by the individual that'll be responsible for them and will be listed as their owner.
I hope this helps families with some important information about our program.
Wishing the best to everyone,
Dave from Carolina's Cute n Cuddly Retrievers
