Approved Dog Foods LIST

Below you will find multiple dog foods we recommend our buyers feed our puppies. keep in mind not all puppies are alike, therefore one puppy's food requirements may be different than another's. Such as but not limited to higher metabolism, food allergies, picky eater, etc. We've compiled a list of foods we recommend our puppies eat until they're 18 months old and foods we'd like them to eat as adults.

We do NOT RECOMMEND feeding common dog food brands such as but not limited to Pedigree, Beneful, Kibbles N Bits, Ol Roy, Retriever, Purina Dog or Puppy Chow, Nutrish by Rachel Ray, Natures Recipe, etc. These dog foods are NOT HEALTHY for your puppy/dog. We recommend feeding only high quality healthy puppy/dog food AND this also includes treats.

Here at Carolina's Cute n Cuddly Retrievers we do not feed our dogs commercial dog treats, but we will include some we recommend as well as other healthy alternative options such as fresh fruits and veggies or homemade dog treats.

We recommend keeping a close eye on dog food brand recalls to ensure your puppy/dog food has not been currently recalled. If by chance your food brand has been recalled check to see if your bag of food has been affected, if so do not feed your dog the recalled food and find them another healthy alternative. We have provided multiple different dog food brands for you to choose from below.

All of our puppies come home to you on one of these foods depending on the litter and their parents. You will be advised which food your puppy is coming home on and encourage you to buy a bag prior to your puppy coming home. You may choose to switch your puppy's food, but we do strongly encourage you to choose another food from this list!

We have provided several options and different brands to choose from below. Please ensure your puppy stays on a puppy or all stages of life food until they are at least 18 months old. All stages of life foods may be fed throughout the duration of your dogs life provided they're doing well and keeping a healthy BCS (body condition score) and are not becoming over weight on their current food. Please also make sure to NOT OVERFEED your puppy/dog!

It is highly recommended to NOT FREE FEED your puppy or adult dog! Puppies should be fed a set amount 3 to 4 times a day and puppies and dogs 6+ months old should be fed twice a day on a routine schedule. Please DO NOT OVERFEED your puppy or dog! This is extremely important to keeping them healthy! At the bottom of this page you can find the BCS Body Condition Score chart to get an idea of what a healthy weight for your dog would look like.

Nutrisource large breed puppy

NutriSource Large Breed Puppy chicken and rice recipe is one of our top recommended puppy foods. Some of our puppies come home with puppy packages from the company that include samples of this food as that's what they've been eating here with us and coupons.

One of the down sides to NutriSource is it's not available to purchase at more common stores such as Chewy.com or Tractor Supply, you have to find private retailers at smaller pet stores to purchase it. Sometimes you may be able to find it on Amazon.com.

It is also one of the more expensive dog foods on this list.

Diamond Naturals Large Breed Puppy lamb and rice recipe is a great choice for puppies that don't have any allergies to chicken or grains. Several of our puppies that we feed the lamb and rice recipe to both the puppy version and adult version (for our dogs that are 18+ months old or older) love the taste of the lamb and rice recipe.

Diamond Naturals All Stages Chicken and rice recipe is a great choice for puppies that don't have any allergies to chicken or grains. This food can be fed to puppies and dogs who do well on it. This is another Diamond Naturals food that our puppies and adult dogs seem to really enjoy the taste of.

However, for adult dogs that are not able to maintain a healthy Body Condition Score (BCS) we don't recommend this food due to it's higher calorie content.

Diamond Naturals All Life Stages Skin & Coat

FOR PUPPIES & DOGS WITH CHICKEN ALLERGIES

Diamond Naturals All Stages Skin & Coat recipe is a great choice for puppies that have allergies to chicken, corn, wheat, or soy. This food can be fed to puppies and dogs who do well on it and can maintain a healthy BCS using all stages of life foods due to their higher calorie content.

This food is a common food to be fed to Labradors with the dilute gene (silver, charcoal, champagne). Labradors are a breed known to have skin conditions and Labs with the dilute gene are even more prone to skin conditions.

victor Hi-Pro Large Breed Puppy Chicken & Brown Rice

Victor has several great nutritious healthy options of puppy and dog foods.

We do recommend feeding a large breed puppy food as puppies will be 50+ lbs when fully grown.

We personally have never fed our puppies this version of Victor but have tried some Victor dog foods and love them. This is a food brand that came recommended to us by our veterinarian in the past.

Victor does tend to be on the pricier side but is a great option.

Victor has several great nutritious healthy options of puppy and dog foods.

Victor Sensitive Skin & Stomach is an All Stages food that can be fed to your puppy throughout their lifetime if they do well on it and have skin allergies as some Labradors are known to have.

We personally have never fed our puppies this version of Victor but have tried some Victor dog foods and love them. This is a food brand that came recommended to us by our veterinarian in the past.

Victor does tend to be on the pricier side but is a great option.

We do not use Taste of The Wild as much as we used to but it is another great option for a healthy dog food.

Many Taste Of the Wild recipes come in an ancient grains version and a grain free version. If your puppy or dog can tolerate grains we do recommend using the ancient grains version.

Taste of the Wild Ancient Stream with ancient grains is an All Stages Of Life food that is another healthy option for your puppy or dog.

This food is also a great option for dogs that have chicken allergies.

We do not use Taste of The Wild as much as we used to but it is another great option for a healthy dog food.

Many Taste Of the Wild recipes come in an ancient grains version and a grain free version. If your puppy or dog can tolerate grains and have no allergies to them we do recommend using the ancient grains version. If not there are versions of this food that are grain free as well.
